Chest or guard inventory?
The named houses are official location references. They are not coordinate instructions, and the announcement does not describe a guaranteed path, key, lock difficulty or retrieval dialogue for either chest.
The offsite guard caveat matters: do not assume every confiscated item was transferred to a town chest. Record where the encounter happened and which guard was involved before concluding that an item vanished. The note does not establish how long a guard keeps it or what happens after every save transition.
A recovery investigation, not a guaranteed walkthrough
Keep a save before experimenting with confiscation. Record the item’s exact name and stolen status, the encounter location and the resulting inventory change. Inspect the destination the evidence actually supports; do not treat this guide as confirmation that every chest is immediately accessible.
If the item is absent, preserve the save and reproduction details. Lock behavior, ownership after recovery, guard transfers and co-op differences remain unverified. No step here promises that stealing again, attacking a guard or reloading will safely recover an item.
Companion tolerance does not remove crime
The same update says companions no longer care about your crimes. That is a companion-behavior change, not a removal of guards or confiscation. Keep those systems distinct when interpreting an encounter.
